Lovable, caring, crafty, funny, and empathetic. These are words I would use to describe Kapha types in their prime. Kaphas make the most loyal friends and caring partners, but too much Kapha is unhealthy in the body and can lead to all sorts of bodily ailments and diseases, as well as some not-so-lovable personality traits. Just like with every dosha, balance is key.
In order to achieve balance of the doshas, it helps to understand what each of them are and how they manifest in the mind and body.
Okay, so what even is Kapha?
Kapha is the stabilizing force which literally holds the body together.
Associated with the elements earth and water, it's qualities are cool, slow, heavy, dense, damp, and soft.
This means your tissue structure, cellular integrity, skin moisture barrier, mucus membranes, and bodily fluids are all depending on Kapha energy.
This may seem a bit strange, but to put it into perspective, without Kapha your body would completely fall apart.
Too little Kapha can lead to dry skin and hair, cellular damage, lack of defense against bacteria and pathogens, lack of grounding, and an inability to enjoy life's calmer moments, to name a few.
On the flip side, too much kapha can lead to laziness, lethargy, depression, hoarding, jealousy, oily skin and hair, weight gain, sticky stools, fatigue, diabetes and the list goes on.
So what can you do to help balance your Kapha energy?
1. The first step is to recognize if you are Kapha dominant (Kapha Prakriti). This is the easiest part, because I've made a quiz so you can figure out exactly what your dosha constitution is. It's quick, easy, and there are no wrong answers. Take the quiz here!
2. If you are a Kapha type, it is easy to develop an excess of kapha, but never fear. Ayurveda has outlined a ton of ways to get back in balance! Some of which are to incorporate invigorating, energizing and uplifting practices into your everyday routine through diet and lifestyle choices. (Lookout alert!!! Watch out for future blogs, because I will be dropping some everyday tips for balancing your dosha type.)
3. A simple and easy way to support Kapha balance is through the power of Ayurvedic herbs. I have created a formula especially for you cuties out there (or should I say kuties) who need some extra support at letting go of that stagnant kapha energy. It has stimulating and detoxifying herbs like Ajowan, Cloves, and Varuna. Check it out now!
